Thursday, July 30, 2009 - United Sai America "USA"

Bhagawan who sat through the programme with rapt attention called the protagonist who played the key role of Sage Narada to create a chain for him in appreciation of his performance.

Arathi was offered at the end of the programme at His instance. On special prayer by the officials, Bhagawan asked the group to have a short stint of bhajans before calling for Arathi once again. Prasadam was distributed before Bhagawan retired to Yajur Mandiram.

Earlier, Bhagawan came out at 1700 hrs. granting darshan to the concourse of devotees assembled in the Sai Kulwant Hall. Coming onstage after a full round of darshan, the Lord most lovingly accepted prayerful offerings by the organisers who came upto Him in groups, one after one, both ladies and gents.

Lord seemed to be interested in minute details as He was seen going through Young Adult Service programme details, an ensuing project in the african continent etc with meticulous attention and was even finding out the programe details from the President cum Chief Organiser Mr. Jack Feely... Before the commencement of the programme Bhagawan asked Mr. Jack Feely to announce the programme to the audience.

A combined group of 222 from Region 4 and 7, belonged to North Central, Northern California and Nevada Region of the US joined in this pilgrimage offering this innovative mode of presentation, presenting to the Lord of the country’s varied cultural and ethnic civilization invoking Him to set His Feet in…. Meticulous planning, research and year-long preparation finally found its fruition when the Lord most benevolently sat through the session with His beautiful face breaking into smiles quite often!!!

Program on thursday evening, 30th July, 2009:

What is America’s message to the world? What does American sentiment reflect? Perhaps the American Young Adults from Region 4 and 7 have found an innovative way of finding an answer to this. They had illustrious Sage Narada on a “fact finding mission”, to report to the Lord of all Lords about the varied cultural and traditional civilization of the country.

The US, which is often referred to as a “melting pot” of cultures, embracing people from different countries, races, and religions welcomes the Sage in his ‘fact finding mission’. The illustrious Sage Narada whose prolific ways of entering into many a world at ease chanting the name of Lord Narayana ends up meeting various sects in the states, visiting across the country finally to submit his report to the Lord of all lords, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba!

With the power packed Rudram filling and sanctifying the air in Prasanthi sending vibes across the universe calling for greater harmony and unity in diversity, on an auspicious Thursday evening, the Young Adults from the United States had a depiction of the illustrious country as a 'United States of varied Cultural Civilizations', calling upon the Lord to bless the country with His Divine visit.

The presentation started with Sage Narada in the United States, meeting up the Native Americans, a sect which believed that everything on earth has a purpose. In their theory of existence, every disease has an herb to cure it, and every person is on a mission.

His next turn was to visit a class at the St. Joseph Catholic School, where the students were learning to speak Italian. The sage was won over by their latin hymns in praise of Jesus Christ.

Destination next was into a Buddhist Monastery. The devotion of a group of Buddhist monks put Narada into ecstasy and he spontaneously blurted out a powerful sloka on Lord Buddha. Equally inspired, a monk also recited a chant after which Narada and the monks prayed together.

The next encounter was with a small group of African-American gospel singers from The United Church of Christ, assembled for The National day of Prayer. He also met a Mexican group from El Paso, Texas, presenting a folk dance set to the tune of Spanish hymns in praise of Jesus Christ. Touched by their devotion, Narada also offered his heartfelt prostrations to Jesus Christ.

In San Francisco, Sage Narada learned Jewish and Muslim prayers and songs from two followers of those religions. Narada remarked that though the religions were different, they seemed to pray for “Peace”.

Narada’s tour of the United States ended at the Hindu temple in Kansas City, where devotees were gathered to celebrate Rama Navami with Nagar Sankeertan. Narada recalled that “the Lord does not reside in Vaikunta, nor solely the hearts of great sages, but anywhere that devotees sing God’s praises”.

Upon his return, Narada expresses his deepest gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the diverse people of the United States of America. Narada, at the end of his US sojourn returns and his report reads as follows:

Dear Lord, I have come back from my mission. My heart is filled with joy! Words fail to express my gratitude to thee, for giving me this opportunity to learn from all the wonderful people in this great country. The people in the United States of America, are just like flowers in a garland. Every region in this country emanates a unique divine fragrance that wafts towards Thee. This country, with its diverse ethnic groups, echoes the divine statement that…

"There is only one religion the religion of love
There is only one language the language of the heart
There is only one caste the caste of humanity
There is only one God, and he is omnipresent."

The people of this land send their prayers for Your blessings and hope that You visit them soon… Narayana Narayana!

Yes, the American Young Adults seemed to have found an innovative way to impress upon the Lord for the big happening, the Divine Visit to the United States of America!…and to turn this utopian to a reality, the Young Adults seemed have a set in motion a mission to change the United States of America into United Sai America!

The presentation was interspersed with ‘broken’ tunes of the famous hindi Bhajan “Hey O Vithale, Bhakta Jana Vatsale…” as Sage Narada would sing the tune in ecstasy glorifying the Lord. Beautiful songs and hymns interspersed depicting various cultural entities enlivened the programme, especially the Islamic song in praise of Allah, “Ya Mustafa…” was a treat which was well received with round of applause by the devotees.

Narada who has been hailed by the Puranas as a great servant of Lord Maha Vishnu has become a worthy instrument at the hands of the Lord in physical in coming up with a report on the American Culture and Civilisation, introducing the varied cultural traditions of the United States, representing the sentiments and supplications of the country to the Lord in physical to set His Feet in the country.

Thus ended the beautiful day with a United America calling the Lord of all Lords to set His Feet in… !!!

Sathya Sai Baba News: Drama By RR District Devotees

. Sunday, July 26, 2009

PARTI YATRA BY RANGA REDDY DISTRICT, AP

Prasanthi Nilayam is often referred to as the Most Happening Place on Earth. Those who are spiritually oriented possessing an in-depth understanding of the subtle level happening forming part of the spiritual renaissance set in motion by Bhagawan will vouch for the same. The week that is passing by witnessed such “quiet happenings” having greater spiritual import.

The week began with a shot in its arm when Bhagawan decided to deliver yet another ‘impromptu’ Divine Discourse speaking on the Vedantic Teaching, Tat Twam Asi, further dwelling upon the often mentioned, God given principles of Love for God, Fear of Sin and Morality in Society. This enlightening Divine Discourse was preceded by two speeches, an exhilarating one by Mr. Anil Kumar followed by a profound and authoritative speech by Mr. S.V.Giri.

Mr. Anil Kumar chose to begin his speech with the easiest, yet most complicated subject, “Who is Sai Baba?” explaining lucidly using Bhagawan’s own version, quoting Tat Tvam Asi, the Grand Pronouncement from Chandogya Upanishad ending with a highlighted reference to the great good fortune conferred upon each and everyone dedicated to His Mission, by being a chosen instrument at the Hands of God walking this earth. Mr. S.V. Giri urged the students to attain mind control, an absolute necessity. Referring to the thousands upon thousands who have been yearning to come over to Prasanthi Nilayam without success, the speaker stressed on the greater importance and the great good luck of being in His Divine Presence.

God reigns supreme and all His utterances, injunctions become authentic words of wisdom for humanity to preserve and follow. Not less than an year ago Prasanthi witnessed a changeover to a new Universal Prayer, “Samastha Lokaha Sukhino Bhavanthu” as taught by Bhagawan with a broader universal perspective.

This eventful week was fortunate to have yet another version of this universal prayer, when Bhagawan whispered a new mantra, “Samastha Jeevah Sukhino Bhavantu”, in the lead singer’s ear and the entire concourse of devotees repeated after him. However, Prasanthi was back to the earlier revised Universal prayer, Samastha Lokaaha, again as advised by Bhagawan. Why alone for four days? None could perceive the spiritual import of these Divine Acts; in His presence nothing is accidental, but everything is quite intentional, absolutely Divine!

Fostering the Vedas has been earmarked as a set Mission of the Avatar walking this earth. Giving a fillip to His Vedic Mission, Prasanthi got introduced to a new scheme during the week, regular Veda chanting at full throat for an hour each, from 8-9 in the morning and 4-5 in the evening, attended by students in full capacity, barring the tiny tots from the Primary School.

Saturday, the 25th July evening turned out to be a test of His often mentioned dictum, “Love My Uncertainty”. The session began at 1600 Hrs. with Vedic Chanting and Bhagawan chose to come bit late at around 17:20 Hrs.

The evening turned twilight was made to witness a record waiting for the Lord who retired to His Private Room just after ten minutes of His arrival and was busily engaged in granting series of interviews to senior devotees.

The long wait came to an end after more than 130 minutes of waiting that tested the patience and perseverance of the small but well disciplined US group from Southern California, Glendale & Arcadia Sadhana Group from Region 8 which stayed well on course with silent prayers.

An opportunity to enact a small skit on the inspirational life of Abraham Lincoln stressing on the theme of Mother’s Blessings followed a bouquet of specialized Bhajans on Mother Divine that lasted for almost fifty minutes were apt rewards for the disciplined and devoted prayers of this overseas group.

“Redeeming Love” as one could term it, the greater compassion that results in His benediction upon the chunk of fraternity serving Him in His Mission tirelessly, selflessly and most devoutly that helps them finally to evolve into exalted spiritual beings, is what one should aspire for in His immediate presence.

How much He cares for those souls whose greater dedication and devotion help moving His Mission forward? The week found a fresh twist to this ‘redeeming love’ as a new system came into affect with which all serving hands, having completed number of years of service, would be blessed to offer a “flower of love” to the Lord in physical before Arathi is offered in the evening.

Mr. Ram Mohan Rao, the grand old man who has been serving the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, heading the Finance and Accounts Operations for many years was the first one chosen to offer ‘the flower of love and devotion’ on the evening of 25th July. God that He is…nothing can ever skip His attention and the dues for our love-filled offering are bound to rebound with manifold effect.

There are other groups from the US camping over here, some groups to stay overlapping the next couple of weeks, making it a “United Offering” from the far western world, The United States of America.

The weekend marks with yet another Parthi Yatra in Prasanthi Nilayam. Over 3000 devotees have come from the Ranga Reddy District of Andhra Pradesh on a three day pilgrimage. On the Sunday evening the Youth and Balvikas children from the district offered a musical dance drama entitled “Radha Bhakthi”. Earlier on the 25th evening the group took out a huge rally outside the ashram, a customary procession showcasing cultural tradition enriched with devotional fervour.

There are many a “quiet happening” in this most happening place… and Prasanthi often shows her thumbs up marking spiritual evolution. Does anyone take note of it? The goal is set, and the progress is steady as dictated by Divine Times… The Timeless Theater in Prasanthi Nilayam is sure to have much more coming up! Be focussed as the Lord reigns Supreme here, very much in physical!

Sathya Sai Baba News: Southern California Musical Skit

.

Skit and Musical Offering by Glendale & Arcadia Sadhana Group, Southern California

Saturday, 25th July, 2009 turned out to be one of the longest evenings in Prasanthi Nilayam on a non-festive day. The pleasant evening turned into cool twilight to a glittering night when the final curtain was drawn at 2030 Hrs.

The evening that had a scheduled programme by a contingent from Southern California, Glendale & Arcadia Sadhana Group from Region 8 had an initial test of “patience and perseverance” as the group had to wait for long two hours before the scheduled hour arrived at 19:35 when Bhagawan asked the group to begin.

The group comprising of 84 members, including children had a small skit entitled “Mother’s Blessings” based on the inspirational life story of the 16th President of the nation, Abraham Lincoln followed a bouquet of Bhajans on Mother Divine.

It is undisputed that there is no bigger figure in the entire american history than the larger than life figure of Abraham Lincoln whose life was a flower of virtues galore and his name is far more familiar in Prasanthi Nilayam as Bhagawan Himself would often quote his exemplary life while discoursing on self confidence, teaching students of the greater values to be inculcated to become ideal ones.

How and what helped him in the face of adversity, in times of unending hardships, to pursue with greater vigour? “Mother’s Blessings” was a depiction of various attributes of the illustrious, exemplary leader highlighting the hardships that he faced and the self-confidence he learned and earned from his loving mother that finally helped him to evolve to become, to officiate the highest office of the President of the United States of America.

Every scene interspersed with vedic hyms bringing the keynote meaning made the presentation lucid bringing in highlighting how the illustrious personality’s life was in harmony with the ancient teachings. This was followed by a bouquet of Bhajans on Mother Divine as a loving devotional offering at His Feet that lasted for over thirty minutes.

After the lengthy session the group was blessed with a photo session with Bhagawan before Arathi was offered.

Indeed, this evening was a test of character for the group, a test of His often quoted dictum, to love His uncertainty…and the group with utmost discipline, showing greater patience and perseverance, conquered His heart with their ‘heartificial’ devotion. …

On a day when they depicted the illustrious life of a great personality, the group had a rare opportunity to win His grace by showcasing some of the His teachings of greater discipline and devotion in practice. …And the clarion call for the evening was the greatness of Mother’s Love which is often termed as the purest and selfless form of Love by Bhagawan Himself.

Arathi was offered at 20:30 Hrs. Beginning a new custom, offering of a flower of “Love” for Bhagawan in recognition of the yeomen, selfless service to Bhagawan’s Mission, Mr. Ram Mohan Rao, Head of Finance and Accounts Section of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust offered a “Rose” to Bhagawan.

This practice was initiated at Bhagawan’s instance and would continue granting an opportunity to all senior servants serving at various institutions under Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. After Arathi was offered Prasadam was distributed before Bhagawan retired to Yajur Mandiram.

Sathya Sai Baba News: 300 Year Old ShivaLingam Found

. Friday, July 24, 2009

On 23rd July 2009, Thursday, In Peddakammavari Palli road, there was some work being done in one farmer's field just behind Swami's ashram and people who were working around found SHIVALINGAM less than 3 feet.

The news spread in Puttaparthi in no time and hundreds of devotees started reaching the place. Puttaparthi has got little bit of history before Swami's birth in this holy tiny hamlet...

“The King, SRI KRISHNADEVARAYA, who had his base in Penukonda which is an hour from Puttaparthi, had built some temples around Puttaparthi in Bukkapatnam and he played the major role in building two lakes in Puttaparthi”.

The emergence of SHIVALINGAM became big news and the media from all over the state came here to cover the news. The archeological director was also called to check the SHIVALINGAM. The primary investigation confirms that that SHIVALINGAM was of 17th century and the Archeological director also didn't write off the possibility of a temple some where closer by this place.

Devotees were queuing up to see this SHIVALINGAM. Many offered Milk, Ghee and other offerings as part of Abhishekam and there were also high profile visitors from the ashram to see this lingam.

The flower and coconut vendors who usually sell near Ganesh gate shifted to this new place and it was totally a festive atmosphere around the SHIVALINGAM place. The auto rickshaw drivers were all driving up and down with devotees to this place.

The upper part of the SHIVALINGAM was detachable and many pandits are of the opinion that since the upper part was removed, it needs to be installed in a better place.

Sathya Sai Baba News: Samastha Jeeva Sukhino Bhavantu

. Tuesday, July 21, 2009

On July 20th, 2009 (Monday), It turned out to be a wonderful evening at Prasanthi Nilayam - an evening that began like any other day, progressed and ended in a very special manner.

As it happens everyday, the bhajans began at 5:00 p.m. and were on when Swami arrived for darshan on a special white chair. It was a wonderful sight and Swami looked so different and beautiful.

The saffron of His robe stood out against the white of the chair. Even His hair was seen in all its glory as it stood out against the white backdrop! Swami moved through the ladies side and into the gents’ side via the central students’ area.

Watch the video of Swami instructing a student to chant "Samastha Jeeva Sukhino Bhavantu"

Swami arrived on the stage and sat for the bhajans. At about 5:30 p.m., prasadam was brought to seek His blessings before the distribution. Swami blessed it but as the distribution was about to begin, He told them to stop.

He then moved around the portico for a bonus darshan and blessings round for all those seated there. And now, arriving on stage, He asked for the podium and mikes! He told Prof. Anil Kumar to speak. For about 20 minutes, the professor spoke on the Upanishads and the principles of Tat Twam Asi and Aham Brahmasmi. He also dilated on the various Vedic declarations on Swami that highlighted His reality and nature.

As he concluded, Swami blessed him and asked Mr. S. V. Giri to address the gathering. He too spoke on the Upanishads and other holy texts. When he was explaining the meaning of Upanishad as, "To sit near the Guru", Swami corrected as, "Down", meaning not only near the Guru but also below the Guru! That correction was however low in volume and was understood only by those whose eyes were riveted on Swami. After his speech, Swami decided to deliver His discourse. Needless to say, there was thunderous applause. Here is the exhaustive summary:

All ask Swami about Atma and none ever understand it. All that has been spoken about the Upanishads are only words. It is said that the Vedas gave rise to the Upanishads but in reality, the Upanishads gave rise to the Vedas. Without the Upanishads, there is no Ramayana, Mahabharata or the Gita; those are mere books.

The ancient sages studied and investigated thoroughly and found that the Atma was the basis for all. Atma is the changeless primordial principle. It has a birth and death when it takes up the body. Shivaratri is not the birthday of Shiva. Shivam means auspiciousness. It is everywhere as declared in the Vedas - "Sarvatah panipadam tat Sarvatokshi Shiromukham. Sarvatah Shrutimalloke Sarvam Aavrutya tishtathi."

Whatever the eyes see, the ears hear or all that is said are all Brahman. Sound, light, speech, movement, etc. - all of these are Brahman. There is nothing apart from that principle. This kerchief, for instance, is Brahman. It arose out of threads which in turn were made of cotton. This is not a cloth in reality but just interwoven threads. It can become either a gown or a dhoti or even a saree.

A powerful mind is that which can convey the Atmic prompting. Without mind, there is no movement at all. So investigate into the mind. The mind keeps changing and that is why it is called the monkey mind. What the mind conveys is not the Truth if it is not prompted by the Atma. Without Atma, there is no Chitta (awareness) and without that, there is no Viveka (discrimination).

The infant grows into a boy, lad, man and becomes a householder. All are same and one cannot exist without the other. The fundamental is the Atma.

People give different forms to the Atma. Some give it the form of the primordial sound - Aumkara. Others call it Tat Twam Asi. It is the same in all. One became many. Just like a mother become a mother and a baby after delivery. The pranava, Aumkara, arises out of the navel as we chant it; it is divine. But all cannot chant Aum. So, they take up other names like Rama, Krishna, Allah, Jesus and the like.

God has no form in reality. The form is used only as an indicator. The form is chosen out of liking. Whether you like Venkateswara, Rama or Krishna, all the forms you have are from Ravi Verma (an artist) paintings! You may shift between forms but all are one.

Ekameva Adviteeyam Brahma. The Brahman is only One and without the second. People imagine and get delusional and that leads to confusion. In a drama, a boy dons the vesture of Krishna. The next scene, he comes as Rama. Though the names you call him are different, the same person arrives. The variations are only due to our delusion.

If you think someone is bad, he appears thus. It is so, also when you think someone is good. It is all based on your feelings towards that person. All these are based on thoughts. Thoughts change due to change in mind.

You think that you are meditating on a form. But it keeps changing from time to time. That is only contemplation. It is steady for some time but it changes. It is meditation when it is absolutely steady. None have meditated so far but they say so. It is all artificial.

It is not good but it is necessary in the beginning. It should be made steady. Concentration leads to contemplation which leads to meditation.

That is acquired by constant practise. Nobody becomes elder at the minute of birth. It is a process of limited growth. It is wrong to think that everything happens as you will. If that is true, then you will not desire anything. You yourself will not exist then. Know yourself first.

"I am Atma". Then why do you considerate it separate from you? All you do today is full of confusion and depression. That leads to disappointment. The wayward nature is responsible for depression. When examinations are held, you either fail or pass. Change is everywhere.

There is change in the environment, water, air, sound, weather – everything changes. How can you remain changeless? Food also changes. What you eat today, you cannot eat tomorrow. It is only the Constant Integrated Awareness that is changeless.

To achieve that, develop the feeling of oneness. The Atma is the same in all. Bodies are like pots and the mind is the water in the pots. The moon is reflected in every pot. Nothing is true without reflection, reaction and resound.

Children! You do not understand the Atma. It is not the letters 'A', 'T' or 'M'. Have the feeling of oneness. All are one. You do different jobs but the spirit of work is the same. It is from the Truth the whole creation has come and it will dissolve into it. That Truth is the Atma. It is changeless. Satya + Satya + Satya = Satya!

Always speak the truth and speak it pleasingly. Truth gives birth to righteousness and together they give rise to Peace. Then there is no anger, pomp, jealousy and ego. There is only Love.

Hanuman went around the whole of Lanka searching for Sita. Though he searched in the palaces, he realised that Sita would never go to Ravana's palace. When he met Ravana in the court, he addressed him in the singular. Ravana was enraged and said that none had the impunity to address him so.

Hanuman then said that he was the servant of Lord Rama and so he would call him in the singular alone. Ravana ordered Hanuman's tail to be set on fire. Do the demons need any provocation for such deeds? They brought all their clothes and rags and wound it around Hanuman's tail and set it on fire. Hanuman leapt and went to every home in Lanka and set it on fire.

Everyone was rushing helter-skelter wondering which house to enter and be safe. Only Vibhishana's house was saved from the carnage. It is all karma. You decorate yourself with jewels and brilliant necklaces of gold. It is only the garland of your karmas that accompanies you always and adorns your neck. All good and bad are recorded. Nothing else matters.

As you sow, so shall you reap. When you eat pakodas (a south Indian savory), your belch will have that flavour. Nothing more, nothing less. Keep your actions right.

If you have Love for God, you will automatically fear sin and refrain from it. You will love society. Daiva Preeti, Paapa Bheeti and Sangha Neeti. Earn these three. Do namasmarana. Singing the praises of the Lord leads to liberation. Aham Brahmasmi. Ayam Atma Brahma.

Focus on the Consciousness alone. Follow your conscience. Do not spend time in idle gossip. Have pure looks, thoughts and words. Then you will be perfect and good. The Ramayana, Mahabharatha and Bhagawatham - all teach good ideas. Develop love for god more and more. All else will follow. Then you can experience consciousness. Then you become God. Practise is needed for that experience.

So begin to practise. Even for small things, you have to practise. Then you become perfect. Otherwise, you make mistakes. The first step is to say, I am not animal, I am not demon - I am human. Become men first. Avatars have come to make humanity realise the divinity.

Be perfect as humans first. Accept and follow whatever God has said. Then the experience will come easily. If you follow bad, you become bad. Tell me your company and I shall tell you what you are. Now, do bhajans.

As bhajans began, Swami asked for the prasadam to be distributed. After the aarthi was performed, the traditional, "Samastha Lokaha Sukhino Bhavanthu" was chanted. Swami instructed that, "Samastha Jeevaa Sukhino Bhavanthu", meaning "Let all the beings in all worlds be happy" should be chanted. That was done as He instructed and Swami blessed the assembly.

On His way to the car, Swami spoke briefly with the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr. Ashok Chavan. It was past 7:15 p.m. when He retired into Yajur Mandir.
